In-service education programs that are being offered by NEWESD 101 (fees may apply) are listed in the workshops area of this website. You can find the specific number of clock hours available for upcoming classes by clicking on a class title or the lock box icon.

Clock Hours Fee

Beginning September 1, 2018 clock hours earned from September 1, 2017 to current that are now being claimed are $3.00 per clock hour with a $10.00 minimum per person per class.

Clock Hours for Traditional Format In-service Education Programs

Traditional format is when participants and instructors are physically present at the same location. Clock hour registration information will be provided at the end of the in-service education program. Participants are required to be physically present and sign-in at every session. If any time is missed, the participant is to deduct this time from the total number of hours available and claim only actual attendance. Participants must attend a minimum of three hours in order to claim clock hours.

Clock Hours for Online In-service Education Programs

Participants registering for online classes through VESI, CE credits, or other offerings will receive clock hour request information with their confirmation materials. Clock hour registration is done after the online class has been completed and completion has been verified through the course provider via a certificate of completion. Clock hours may not be requested nor paid for when registering for on online class. Participants must participate a minimum of three hours in order to claim clock hours.

Clock Hours Requirements

To renew your Continuing and Professional certificates, 100 clock hours, 15 quarter credits or 10 semester credits are required. Districts may offer salary enhancement for course work.

RCW Chapter 28A.415 Institutes, Workshops, and Trainings


  1. Participants must be in actual (physical) attendance at the inservice education program location at the assigned time and for the duration of the inservice education program.
  2. Participants must sign-in each day of the inservice education program.
  3. Participants will not be able to claim clock hours if they have not signed the provided sign-in sheet. NEWESD 101 will not accept verbal or written documentation (other than official sign-in sheets) from the sponsor, instructor, school district or other entity stating the participant was present after the inservice education program has taken place.

Endorsement Requirements

The STEM Certificate Renewal Requirement

As per RCW 28A.410.221 beginning September 1, 2014 continuing education or professional growth plans for teachers at the elementary and secondary levels in STEM-related subjects must include a specific focus on the integration of science, mathematics, technology, and engineering instruction 2. This requirement is for all continuing and professional certificate holders.

Beginning in 2019, renewal applications for professional and continuing teacher certificates must document completion of at least 15 clock hours, or at least one goal from an annual professional growth plan (PGP), with an emphasis on STEM integration to meet this renewal requirement. STEM integration is the authentic combination of at least two of the STEM components (science, technology, engineering, mathematics).

The TPEP Certificate Renewal Requirement

RCW 28A.410.278 Beginning September 1, 2016, the professional educator standards board shall incorporate in-service training or continuing education on the revised teacher and principal evaluation systems under RCW 28A.405.100 as a requirement for renewal of continuing or professional level certificates, including requiring knowledge and competencies in teacher and principal evaluation systems as an aspect of professional growth plans used for certificate renewal.

The Suicide Prevention Requirement

Beginning July 1, 2015 all continuing and professional certificates for educational staff associates will include a requirement for suicide prevention training for renewal per RCW 28A.410.226.
