Policy Council is an opportunity for families and community members to work together with the director and staff of the NorthEast Washington Educational Service District 101 (NEWESD 101) Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) to offer input that affects all ECEAP families and staff. The purpose of the Policy Council is to develop family empowerment and leadership and serve as a communication link between the contractor and ECEAP families. NEWESD 101's ECEAP holds policy council meetings via zoom. NEWESD 101 ECEAP programs are located in Adams, Ferry, Lincoln, Spokane, and Stevens counties.

What does Policy Council do?

Offers a parent and family point of view

Review and provide input into personnel and other program procedures

Gives input to the budget and program design

Plans and implements parent activities with staff assistance

Communicates with other parents and encourages their participation

Provides input into program recruitment and enrollment priority and procedures

Offer input into annual program self-assessment
Who can serve?
-
Parents/Families of children enrolled in ECEAP at NorthEast Washington ESD 101 sites

Community members approved by parents of children enrolled in ECEAP at NorthEast Washington ESD 101 sites

Serving on Policy Council is limited to five years of parent/family membership
What can I expect?

You will be invited to participate via a zoom meeting link. (If participation increases, we may meet in-person)

You will be asked to sign in

An agenda and handouts will be shared with you. The handouts might include topics relating to kindergarten readiness, program plans that need your input, ideas to use to play with your child and support their learning, and many other topics that you help decide.

Opportunities will be given to share news and information from your site, such as: ideas and input that we want to hear from you about, parent involvement activities, what is going great, and what may need changing.

You don't have to speak up unless you want to. You'll hear many different opinions - we hope that you will share information between Policy Council and families at your site.
